The Forecast line is the equal-weight average of enabled, available systems, not a calibrated or official forecast. Show models reveals the individual coloured forecasts and provider controls. Toggle a provider to include or exclude it throughout the page; Hide models only changes the display.

Rain, snow and frost percentages are the fraction of valid ensemble members exceeding the stated threshold. Thunder, hail and fog signals are fractions of members with matching weather codes; these are indicative model signals, not calibrated event probabilities. Missing data stays unavailable.

The past 24 hours contain recent model output, not weather-station observations. Model resolution, age, available variables and forecast horizon vary. An hourly display may contain interpolated model output. UKV is a deterministic forecast, so it contributes values but no invented probability.

Forecast responses are stored in this browser for one hour per location and model, including across reloads. Manual refresh requests fresh data and is available once every five seconds. Automatic forecast updates run hourly. If storage is unavailable, caching lasts for this tab only.

Scales describe the selected hour’s model average using fixed reference ranges. Temperature comfort and clothing suggestions are approximate; they are not personalised. Markers stop at the ends of a scale; the number always shows the forecast value. UV categories follow the EPA scale ↗.

Forecast systems

Forecasts are supplied through Open-Meteo ↗. The page averages the systems you include in the chart legends. Availability varies by location, hour and weather detail.

Animated sky

Open-Meteo best-match forecast ↗ supplies a separate cloud profile, including cloud layers, humidity and winds at altitude. This is used for the sky and is not an extra system in the forecast average.

Stars come from the D3 Celestial star catalogue ↗, fetched through GitHub. Sun and moon positions are calculated in your browser. The animated sky is a procedural illustration.

Simulated aircraft

The sky uses a fictional plane timetable, inspired by Isle of Man Airport routes ↗ and typical airline fleets. Timings, aircraft assignments, paths and overflights are invented. Elsewhere, traffic is an illustrative local pattern. No live flight service is used.

Contrails are persistent sky features reconstructed from the fictional flight paths and forecast time, including before you opened the page. Engine plumes spread and merge into wispy cloud, and can remain for several hours. Upper-air temperature, humidity and changing winds guide their formation, drift, spreading and fading; cloud wakes are small visual disturbances. These are decorative effects, not observations or a contrail forecast. A midnight visitor makes a nightly circuit of the island before departing north.

Pollen & air quality

Atmospheric composition forecasts are supplied by Open-Meteo, using CAMS ENSEMBLE European data and CAMS global forecasts. These are gridded estimates, not nearby monitoring-station measurements. European coverage is roughly 11 km; global coverage is coarser. Pollen is available in Europe during the season with roughly four forecast days. Pollution generally extends further, but missing hours and unsupported regions remain unavailable. The European AQI scale is used worldwide and is distinct from UK DAQI and US AQI. Pollen concentrations do not establish personal allergy risk. This extra feed loads separately from the five weather systems and does not contribute votes to weather-event probabilities.

Location search

On your first visit, GeoJS can estimate your city from your IP address without a device-location permission prompt. This can be inaccurate, especially with a VPN or mobile network. A saved location takes priority. Search for a town or choose Use my location to correct it.

Open-Meteo geocoding ↗, based on GeoNames ↗, supplies place names, coordinates and time zones. “Use my location” uses your browser’s location service.

How fresh is the data?

Forecast responses are cached in this browser for one hour. Fetch times above describe when the data was retrieved, not when a model was run. Older cached data and failed sources are labelled. Missing values are excluded from averages.
